More than 500 COVID-19 and flu vaccinations have been given at walk in pop-up vaccination clinics hosted by Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership at Kirkgate Market and Oastler Market in just over six weeks.
Walk-in clinics offer visitors the opportunity to have their flu vaccine, COVID-19 booster, or their first and second dose of the vaccine. Health workers will also be on hand to offer advice on general health, wellbeing and cost of living support.
COVID-19 support worker Sadia Kauser is part of the vaccination team at Oastler Market, she said: “It has been an amazing experience to support so many people in getting vaccinated and providing care for those who were ill.
“Reaching all these people has been a huge accomplishment and it’s heartening to know that this work will continue. It has also been a pleasure to refer people to GP services after conducting blood pressure checks, as it allowed us to identify and address health concerns that they were previously unaware of.”
Protection from vaccines reduces over time so the booster jab is being offered to those at greatest risk from COVID-19 to increase protection during the winter months when viruses spread most easily. The flu jab is also available to those over 50 years-old, pregnant or with a long term health condition to help reduce the risk of illness.
Karen Dawber, chief nursing officer at Bradford Teaching Hospitals Trust and senior responsible officer for Bradford District and Craven’s vaccination programme, said:
“We are committed as a partnership to make it easy for people to access the COVID-19 and flu vaccinations as well as wider health related and cost of living advice. It’s easy to forget the devastating consequences of Covid-19 now that we’re back to a normal way of life, but the virus is still with us, and we need to do all we can to prevent another surge this winter and keep people protected.”
Oastler Market pop up clinic will remain open on Thursdays and Fridays 11am to 2pm, and from 10am to 2pm on Saturdays in February. You can also get your flu vaccination at Broadway Shopping Centre until the end of February.
