As the holiday season brings unique pressures, the ‘You’re not alone this winter’ campaign is reminding communities across Bradford District and Craven that mental health support is available.
The campaign, launched by Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership, addresses isolation, academic pressure, and financial worry across Bradford District and Craven.
The festive period can intensify feelings of isolation for students away from home and create financial and emotional strain for families. The campaign directs people to the Healthy Minds website as a first step to finding local support and what help is available.
Dr Junaid Azam, GP and Clinical Lead for Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership, has said: “Winter holidays aren’t always a joyful time for everyone. We want students and families to know that it’s okay to find this season difficult, and that seeking support is a positive and strong thing to do. Talk to someone that you trust or visit the Healthy Minds website, where you can choose the type of service you want to access to help you with your mental health. The website includes a directory of services, and you have the option of filtering the kind of support you’re looking for to meet your needs, or someone you care about.”
Celina, Healthy Minds apprentice, has said: “As the days grow shorter and the air becomes cold, I often find myself bracing for the winter months – not just physically, but emotionally too. Since learning a few ways to manage the emotional burden of winter, I have developed a joy for the season. Small things, like checking in, really matter to me in the winter season as it reminds me I’m not alone. If you’re struggling with the winter months, know that you’re not alone. With a little intention and care for ourselves, winter can become a season of rest, recharging and even joy.”
The campaign message is one of community and hope; however, individuals are feeling this winter, support is available via the Healthy Minds website, and the following information is included on the website:
- A student survival guide: a blog and video series by Healthy Minds apprentices, offering peer-to-peer advice on managing winter isolation and stress
- Cost-of-living support: direct links to practical advice and financial support on Bradford Council website and North Yorkshire Council website
- Winter wellbeing resources: features blogs on managing Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and combating loneliness.
