The NHS in Bradford District and Craven is busier than ever, with a rise in flu, norovirus, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as we go into Christmas.
People are being asked to get their flu, COVID-19 and RSV vaccines if they’re eligible, check which service is the most suitable for them if they feel unwell, and to check their medication supplies so they have enough over the holidays.
There’s just a week left to book COVID-19 and flu vaccinations on the NHS online booking system (nhs.uk/seasonalvaccinations), NHS App and 119 phone service ahead of Christmas. It is still possible to get your vaccinations after 19 December through local NHS vaccination services, like pharmacies or walk-in sites.
People with minor ailments or injuries are being encouraged to visit 111.nhs.uk or call the NHS 111 advice line or talk to their GP or pharmacist. You may think about keeping a small stock of basic medications in case you need them over the holiday period. By planning in advance, you can help reduce pressures on emergency services.
If you need to order or collect any repeat prescriptions make sure to order or collect early. It is important to make sure you have enough medication to last the long weekends. You can use the NHS website to find an open pharmacy near you: www.nhs.uk/find-a-pharmacy.
Helen Farmer, Director of System Transformation at Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership said: “Our health services – particularly Airedale Hospital Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department and Bradford Royal Infirmary A&E – will be extremely busy over Christmas and the New Year, we can all play our part to help ourselves and others stay well this winter.
